Direct negotiations soon... and an Israeli official: “You will be under fire”

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu announced his agreement to open direct negotiations with Lebanon as soon as possible, in response to what he described as “repeated requests” from the Lebanese side in this regard.
Netanyahu explained that he issued his directives during the mini-security cabinet meeting to begin these negotiations, indicating that they would focus on disarming Hezbollah and organizing peace relations between Israel and Lebanon.
Netanyahu added that Israel "appreciates" the call made by the Lebanese Prime Minister to disarm Beirut, in reference to a Lebanese position that intersects with the conditions proposed by Tel Aviv within any possible negotiating path.
The Axios correspondent indicated that there is no ceasefire in Lebanon and negotiations will begin in the coming days.
He confirmed that Netanyahu's statement came after telephone conversations he held yesterday with Trump and White House envoy Steve Witkoff.
Channel 12 pointed out that Ambassador Leiter is the one who will lead the direct negotiations before President Joseph Aoun.

The Jerusalem Post reported, citing sources, that negotiations will be held between the ambassadors of Israel and Lebanon in Washington, mediated by the American ambassador in Beirut.

Axios quoted a senior Israeli official as saying that the first direct meeting between the delegations of Lebanon and Israel will be held at the US State Department in Washington.
An official Lebanese source pointed out that the Lebanese side is adhering to the initiative launched by President Aoun, which requires a ceasefire before going to negotiations.
An official Lebanese source confirmed that Lebanon has not yet been informed of any date for direct negotiations with Israel.
Channel 12, quoting an Israeli official, pointed out that there are no high Israeli expectations for the success of the negotiations with Lebanon.
Axios indicated that the US Ambassador to Lebanon, Michel Issa, will participate in the negotiations between Israel and Lebanon.
